Dominick Cardella, 89, of Hermosa Beach, California, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on July 18, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York, to Rose and Joseph Cardella, Dominick was a proud first-generation Italian American who remained a lifelong Dodgers fan. He was awarded scholarships for both preparatory high school and college, paving the way for a successful career as an electrical engineer in the aerospace industry.
His work took him from New York to Texas, and eventually to California, where he met and married his first wife, Ruby. Together, they shared 42 wonderful years and raised five children. Life in California was filled with adventure—camping, hiking, beach days, sports, and a deep appreciation for the ocean. Dominick was also a gifted cook and baker, well known for his apple pies.
Following Ruby’s passing, Dominick found love again with Johanna Lundy, his second wife of 15 years. Their life together was rich with travel, cruises, dancing, bridge games, ocean swims, and sunsets. Between them, they shared 11 children and countless grandchildren.
One of Dominick’s greatest joys was spending time with friends and family at Tony’s Camp in Baja California, Mexico. Over 40 years, this beloved tradition has fostered countless lifelong friendships and continues through his children today.
Dominick also had a deep commitment to service. He volunteered in the Emergency Department at his local hospital and served as an Eucharistic minister at his Catholic parish, often visiting and comforting the homebound and ill.
He is survived by his current spouse, Cinzia Villa; his five children – Michele, Joseph, Lisa (Vavic), Dominick, and Michael; and his twelve grandchildren – Nikola, Monica, Marko, Stefan, Shannon, Joey, Luciana, Kaleena, Dominick, Christopher, Alesandra, and Domenic.
On Saturday, November 1st at 10:30 am, a funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Hermosa Beach. This will be followed by a celebration of life reception at 12:00 pm in Manhattan Beach.
