Mr. Lawrence Donihue Avant, Sr., known by all as “Don,” age 84, of Walterboro, entered into rest Thursday morning, March 12, 2026, at his residence.
Born September 25, 1941, in Walterboro, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Caleb Donihue Avant and the late Tula Elizabeth Butler Avant. He served proudly in the United States Air Force and was the owner of Avant's Custom Flooring, a well-known enterprise in Walterboro that provided floor covering to countless homes and businesses throughout the Lowcountry of South Carolina.
Don was an active member of Northside Christian Church in Walterboro, where he served as a Deacon and Elder. He dearly loved his church and its people, all of whom he considered like family. He loved the outdoors and was always willing and ready for an adventure. He immensely enjoyed bow hunting in Arizona where he will eventually be laid to rest. He also enjoyed turkey hunting and was a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation. Formerly, he was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
Surviving are: his wife of sixty-three years, Mrs. Karen Webb Avant; two children, Donnie Avant, Jr. (Angie) of Ocala, Florida and Katrina Avant Reeves (Jason) of Cottageville; a sister, Peggy Avant White of Walterboro; a brother, James Earl Avant of Alabama; six grandchildren, Ariel Amberly Avant, Elizabeth Ann Reeves Anderson (Jonathan), Thomas Ethan Reeves (Jenna), Wyatt Donihue Reeves, Rowan Halsey Reeves, and August Webb Reeves; and two great grandchildren, Eleanor Joy Anderson and Thomas Richard Reeves. He was preceded in death by a great grandson, Ezra Lawrence Anderson; and three siblings, Polly Anne Avant DeWitt, Carl Lee Avant, and Robert Neal Avant.
Arrangements for his funeral service at Northside Christian Church are incomplete at this time and will be announced soon.
