Don Borman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hitesman-Holdship Funeral Home on Feb. 12, 2026.
Don Duane Borman of Traverse City, MI, formally of Cadillac and Allen Park, passed away peacefully on February 6th, 2026, at Traverse Manor in Traverse City.

Don, 89 years old, was born June 25th, 1936, in Detroit MI to the late Paul and Selma Borman.

Don was a very proud Navy Veteran who served for 3 years from 1954 until 1957. After his time in the Navy, he became a Police Officer for the City of Allen Park for 25 years having retired in 1983. After his retirement as a Police Officer, he started his own business as a Process Server working for the court. He was also a proud member of the Cadillac Area Honor Guard for 4 years from 2014 until 2018.

He loved spending time with friends and family. He also had many hobbies that included fishing (and keeping a friendly competition going of who could catch the biggest fish), art classes that consisted of painting and some woodworking, he was a longtime fan of the Detroit Tigers, he was an avid reader and enjoyed books about history, he also enjoyed the company of his many Beagles that he owned over the years. During his younger years he liked to be out hunting birds and rabbits with his beagles by his side (his beagles were very patient with all his "misses" which jokingly earned him the nickname "Boom Boom"). Don and his late wife Jeanette enjoyed traveling (and overnight casino trips), and they loved to share stories and pictures of their trips together.

Don had a sense of humor that was unmatched. He knew how to keep the jokes coming and the conversations interesting. He always had a smile on his face and really knew how to make people feel welcome.

He is survived by his children and beloved step-children: Alice Borman, Elizabeth Rossi, David Borman (Rosanna), Michael Borman (Jackie), Donna Hammermeister (Kevin), Thomas Bush (Hermelinda), Mardelle Wager (Carl), Dawn Weiler (Mark) and Barbara Young (John). Grandkids and Great Grandkids: Ronda Duncan (John), Kaitlyn Duncan, Anthony Duncan, Don Rossi, Megan Reese, Matthew Reese, Paul Borman, Kristen Borman, Susan Hammermeister, Kevin Hammermeister, Melissa Bush, Charlie Bush and Michelle White.

Don was preceded in death by his late wife Jeanette Borman and his parents, Paul and Selma Borman.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 11 a.m. with visitation held one hour prior at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Cadillac. A luncheon will follow the service, also at the church. Don will be laid to rest at Glen Eden Memorial Park in Livonia MI (Garden of Forgiveness) on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 11 a.m.

"May he rest where the waters are always calm, and the fish are always biting"
