Don Franklin Obituary

Published by Legacy on Aug. 15, 2025.
Don Franklin Jr., 78, of Marion, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family - the very center of his world.

Born in Paintsville, Kentucky, on July 26, 1947, to Don and Carol (Butcher) Franklin, Don lived a life marked by devotion, generosity, faith, and unwavering dedication to those he loved. On November 14, 1965, he married the love of his life, Connie Sue (Smith) Franklin, beginning a 59-year journey together that became the foundation of a close-knit and deeply loving family.

A man of great faith, Don lived by his values, finding strength and purpose through his relationship with God. He shared his faith not only in words, but in the way he loved, served, and cared for others.

Don retired from Ohio Edison after 35 years of dedicated service, where he formed lifelong friendships with his coworkers who became like family to him - especially his dear friend Dale Herr, who was like a brother. Even in retirement, those bonds remained strong, a testament to the loyalty and kindness that defined him.

He was a proud and caring father to his two daughters, Lisa (John) Scott and Lori (Art) Cheney, and an adoring grandfather to Katelyn (Nicholas) Popovich, Anna (Xavier Adams) Rich, Clayton (Leah Maniaci) Cheney, and Weston (Lyndi) Cheney. His joy multiplied with the arrival of his great-granddaughters, Olivia Sue Popovich and soon-to-arrive Emersyn Faith Cheney, due September 26th.

Known for his generosity and work ethic, Don was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back to someone in need. He was a steadfast provider, a quiet strength, and a constant source of love and encouragement for everyone around him.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Connie; his daughters and sons-in-law; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister, Phyllis (Greg) Franklin Brown; his brothers, Ben (Cindy) Franklin and Barry (Patty) Franklin; his lifelong friend Dale Herr and his wife, Sharol; and several nieces and nephews, all of whom were deeply loved.

Don's life was a testament to the power of family, kindness, and faith. His love will live on in the hearts of those he touched, and his memory will be cherished forever.

A Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, August 23, 2025 at Marion Women's Club Home, 1126 East Center Street, Marion from 1PM to 4PM.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project and The Salvation Army.
