Don Langston Obituary

Published by Legacy on Apr. 19, 2024.
Donald Wayne Langston was born on March 31, 1940, to J. W and Leota Langston in Lubbock, Texas. He "hoed his last weeds" on April 18, 2024, at the age of 84.
For the past 50 years, Don and Gayle have been actively involved at Trinity Church. He served on the missions and outreach committee and was also a deacon. His faith is an integral part of the legacy he will leave for family and friends.
Don has had a hoe in his hand or was behind the wheel of a tractor since he was a very young boy. Hard work was his mantra, and the jobs were never done. As if raising three girls to work on the farm was not enough of a challenge, he decided to add 12,000 chickens to the mix! For over ten years, feeding, gathering eggs twice a day, and cleaning out pens was his alternate form of entertainment!
As a lifelong farmer, Don poured his life into the agriculture community. He was president of Plains Cotton Growers, an active member in the Beefmaster Association, and served as a director for the Federal Land Bank. In 2023, he was honored by Lubbock Cotton Growers for his thirty years of service on the board of directors and valued contributions to the gin and farming industry.
Telling long-winded stories, blessing others with vegetables from his garden, and sharing local history brought him much joy and were trademarks that will be remembered by many.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gayle; three daughters and their spouses – Laurie and Jeff Terry, Amy and Alan West, and Bonnie and Mickey Eckles. Don was blessed to have seven grandchildren and their spouses, and eight great-grandchildren. He also has four siblings – Ellis Langston, Joe Langston (Jessie), David Langston (Ronda), and Beth Ruppel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister – Ellenor Wilkison, and an infant grandson.
The family would appreciate donations to Trinity church of Lubbock Give | Trinity Church (trinitytoday.com) or Lubbock Meals on Wheels Donate (lubbockmealsonwheels.org).
Family and friends are welcome to gather at Lake Ridge Chapel for visitation from 5:00 – 7:00 on Monday, April 22, 2024. Services will be held at Trinity Church Sanctuary on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at 10:00 am with a graveside to follow at Resthaven Cemetery.
