Don McCarn Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McCarn Funeral Chapel - Clayton on Jan. 28, 2026.
Don Wallace McCarn Sr., age 75, passed away from this life on January 17, 2026, in Fort Smith, Arkansas surrounded by his loving family. Don was born on November 2, 1950, to Bobbie Jewel (Dyer) and Jack McCarn in McAlester, Oklahoma. After graduating high school, he attended college in Durant, Oklahoma to obtain his Bachelor's degree in wood-shop teaching. He married the love of his life; Sharron Garrison and they began their life journey together. This journey included three children, Don Jr. (Donnie), Kimberly and George. With Sharron by his side, they enjoyed gathering antiques, ranching, playing Yahtzee, bailing hay, raising cattle and a large family. Don had a green thumb and could grow a garden in the most desolate area. He would raise a big garden every year and pass out vegetables to all the neighbors and friends. Don served on the Clayton school board for many years. He worked for Adult Protective Services for 20+ years before retiring to enjoy farming with his family. Don was very quick witted, and you never knew what he was going to say but one thing for sure, he always told you what he thought. He enjoyed riding the side by side and checking on his cattle, he could remember every detail about every one. Don AKA Poppa loved his large family deeply and was proud of each and every one. Don will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Don is survived by his sons, Don McCarn Jr. (Jessica) and George McCarn (Caitlyn); grandchildren, Brandii, Zachary, Eli, Emily (Anthony), Elaina (Kali), Ashten (Hunter), Hope, Kendell (Lilly), Brooklynn, Drew, Cayd, Kyia; 14 great grandchildren with 2 more on the way; sister, Susie McCarn; brother in law, Earl Garrison and wife Cindy; special cousin, Richard McCarn; special friends, Bob Skaggs, and Troy Splawn; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family and a host of friends.
