Donald ‘Slats’ Orval Strahan, 87, of Grapevine, TX, has gently passed on his way on December 22, 2025, surrounded by loving family. He was the wittiest person that most of us have ever known. He would turn a simple story into pure comedy gold with his impeccable timing.

Don was born on February 5, 1938, in Bellmead, TX, the son of Orval Cecil Strahan and Eva Elizabeth Connally Strahan. He graduated from Connally High School in 1957. His dad always said that Don ‘went through Baylor – in the front door and out the back’.

Don married Lee Strahan on March 21, 1980, in Las Vegas, NV. They were married for 45 wonderful years. Don and Lee loved to travel, host parties and have family get-togethers.

Don loved to play golf and hang out with friends. He was the life of the party making new friends wherever he went. He had a special gift to make everyone around him feel special and lived every day to its fullest. He was not just nice or kind in passing, but genuinely sweet in a way that touched everyone around him.

Some of our favorite memories of Don are his Byron Nelson parties; hanging at Flips in Grapevine; Cowboys games; old country music on the back porch; listening to him tell a story that would end with the greatest, most unexpected punch line; and his incredible love for Lee, who he lovingly nicknamed ‘Fancy’.

Remaining to cherish Don’s memory are his wife, Lee; daughter, Tobi (Jim); stepdaughter Kim (Denis); grandchildren, Chace (Haley), Valerie (Chris) and Austin (Selena); and great-grandchildren, Maddox, Clara, Lilly, Aria, Sierra and Luciana.

Funeral services will be held on December 29, 2025, at 12 p.m. at Lucas Funeral Home in Grapevine, TX with Director, Mark Lucas Kelly officiating.

Memorial donations in Don’s memory may be directed to the Tarrant County Food Bank or GRACE in Grapevine. In lieu of flowers, please plant a tree in Don’s name that will grow straight and tall, just like him.
