Mr. George Donald "Don" Tartt, Sr., 89, of Grenada, a man whose life reflected hard work, devotion, and generosity, passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at his residence, with his wife and son at his side. Born on September 15, 1935, in Cascilla, Mississippi, Don dedicated much of his life to public service and community growth. A proud patriot, he honorably served in the Mississippi Army National Guard. He was elected to two terms on the Grenada County Board of Supervisors and later worked for over 21 years as the Maintenance Supervisor for the Grenada School District, always striving to improve the lives of others with quiet dedication and integrity. Following retirement, Don embraced his love of the land by founding Tartt Farms, where he cultivated an abundant harvest of peaches, plums, apples, and various vegetables. His produce nourished not only the soil, but the community-blessing countless families with fresh, local food and generosity of spirit. An avid outdoorsman, Don found joy in hunting and fishing, and was a proud, lifelong member of the Zero Hunting Club, cherishing the fellowship of friends who shared his appreciation for nature. Don's faith was central in his life, and he attended St. Peter Catholic Parish in Grenada. He also enjoyed mentoring young people through coaching his son's baseball and Upward Basketball teams for over 10 years, leading with patience, encouragement, and love. He leaves behind a legacy not only in his family but in the example he set-through his integrity, work ethic, and quiet strength. Though we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a life well-lived-a man who gave back to his community, worked with his hands and heart, and loved deeply.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Monday, June 9, 2025 at St. Peter Catholic Parish in Grenada with Fr. Joseph Thumma officiating. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 6:00 PM Sunday evening at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service.
