Dona Hixon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Core Cremation - Wichita on Jul. 8, 2025.
Dona Lee Hixon, 89, was born April 5, 1936, in Kansas City, Missouri and adopted as an infant by loving parents, William and Luella Samuelson of Salina, Kansas. She was an accomplished musician playing cello in the Salina High School orchestra as well as the Youth Symphony Orchestra in Wichita and singing in choirs. After graduating in 1954, Dona married Gary Hanna of Springfield, Colorado. They had four children, Nancy Hanna Davis, Wichita, Ks; Bill V (Elaine) Hanna, Etiwanda, Calif; Charles H (Marla) Hanna, Fruita, Colo; and Rhonda Hanna Clem (Dave Parra), San Antonio, Tex.

Dona was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church and very proud of her 60-year pin from United Methodist Women. In 2020 she was awarded the Quiet Disciple Award by the Fruita Colorado United Methodist Church.

When her health began to fail, Dona moved to Wichita to be near her oldest daughter. She loved flowers and enjoyed visiting Botanica, Bartlett Arboretum and Frank Lloyd Wright's Allen House for their beautiful gardens. Needlework and jigsaw puzzles were her favorite hobbies.

Dona is survived by all her children as well as granddaughters, Veronica Davis (Michael) Holtz, Wichita, Kan; and Heather Hanna of southern California; and four-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by husbands Dale Jameson and Owen Hixon.

The family asks that memorials be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, 7829 E Rockhill St, #403, Wichita, KS 67206. goodshepherdhospice.com.
