Donald S. Auer

Donald S. Auer, 90, of Bridgewater, NJ, formerly of Springfield, NJ, passed peacefully on February 1, 2023. Born in Newark, NJ to the late August William and Dorothea Rose Kohn Auer, he was raised in Newark, and resided in Newark and Springfield. Donald graduated from Newark Central High School in Newark. Donald served proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Newark College of Engineering now known as NJIT. After college, He was a Communications Director for 40 years with The Bell System-AT&T in Newark, East Orange and Bedminster, NJ.
Donald was a member and officer of the First Presbyterian Church in Springfield for over 50 years. He also was an ARC volunteer, a Senior tax prep volunteer, the Historical Society, Springfield Garden Club, Boy Scouts, and the American Legion and a member of the Gideons. He enjoyed family gatherings, walking, bird watching, gardening, Senior softball, HAM radio using Morse Code and was an avid reader of history.
Donald is pre-deceased by his wife Elaine Claire Auer. He is survived by his four children, William Auer, Kathleen Pirella, Beth Nicol and Karen Giunta, 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 12:00 noon at First Presbyterian Church of Springfield, 210 Morris Ave., Springfield, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations in Donald's name may be made to: Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC, 28607
