Donald Wesley Black I was born on July 12, 1964, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Eula Belle Griffin. He was adopted as an infant by his uncle and aunt, Rev. Robert C. Black and Helen Black.
Donald attended schools in the Kansas City, Missouri, School District. At a young age, he accepted Christ and became a member of Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Williams.
When Rev. Robert C. Black assumed the role of Pastor at 35th Street Baptist Church, he brought his family with him. It was there that Donald answered his call to the ministry at an early age. Following the retirement of Rev. Robert C. Black, Donald made history as the first son to succeed his father as Pastor of 35th Street Baptist Church. He served faithfully for many years before stepping down from the position.
Donald transitioned into glory on December 16, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eula Belle Griffin, Rev. Robert C. Black, and Helen Black, as well as his brothers Michael Woods, William Darnell Griffin, and Oliver Eugene Griffin.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, cherished by his children, Donald W. Black II (affectionately known as "Mister") and Daryan E. Black, both of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by his two grandchildren, Sir C. Black and Sevyn C. Black. His surviving siblings include Margaret Henderson, LaTonia Pickens (Glen), his twin brother Ronald Black, Glenda Samuels, Regina Barnes, and Iva Davidson, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
