Donald E. Blumer, 92, of Cassville, Wisconsin, passed away Monday, November 3, 2025, at Lancaster Health Services in Lancaster, Wisconsin.
Graveside services will be held at Concord Cemetery in Garner, Iowa on Monday, November 10, 2025, at 11AM. A luncheon will follow the service.
Donald was born on November 21, 1932, in Hancock County, Iowa, son of Jacob and Fannie (Heginger) Blumer. He graduated from Garner High School in 1950, the first of his family to graduate from high school. After graduation he was drafted into the Army and was stationed in Mildenhall, England during the Korean Conflict. That is where he met his wife Thelma Powell and were married in Newmarket, England on January 18, 1955. They returned to America by troop ship that same year. They settled in Garner , Iowa and raised their 5 daughters on a dairy farm, teaching them the value of hard work so they would all develop a good work ethic.
His first job after returning to Garner was a mechanic at Asa’s DX service station. After that he went into farming.
He also did artificial insemination for his dairy herd and several herds in the area. He was a board member of the Garner Creamery and the Hancock Co. Co-Op.. He was most proud of his Bloom Ayr Registered Ayrshire dairy herd, which won several awards when the girls showed them at county and regional fairs. He started contour farming in Liberty Township.
Survivors include his children: Karen (Gary) Gray of Torrington, Wyoming, Becky (Gary) Hampton of Cassville, Wisconsin, Susan Stence of Coon Valley, Wisconsin, Julie (Dennis) Zittergruen of Guttenberg, Ellen (Doug) Alvin of Richland Center, Wisconsin; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Amber (Alvin) Syrovatka and their children, Jackson and Colt; Courtney (William) Simmons and their children, Haiden (Nicole) Mattis, Paige (Devon) Smith and Cadence Kessler; Matthew (Leann) Mattis and their children, Ava and Asher; Ashley (Andrew) Winter and their children, Amelia, Amarie and Aceson; Andy (Jennifer) Hampton; Mindy (Ted) Guthrie and their children, Everett and Emery; Nicole (Jeremy) Johnson and their children, Isabella and Cole; Jason (Danielle Eitsert) Bacon and their children, Emma and Hegan; Heidi (Chuck) Ploessl and their children, Chloe, Grace and Reed; Joe (Bobbie Schultz) Alvin and son, Jonathan; Brittany (Jim) Schultz and their children, Ellye and William; Jessica (Drew) Serocki and their children, Kinsley and Charley.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma in 2012; parents; parents-in-law, Albert and Joyce Powell, sons-in-law: Jinx Tucker and Lee Stence; siblings: Ivadell (Raymond) Schoenwetter, Robert (Iola) Blumer, Betty (Alvin) Halverson, Harold Blumer; and his faithful companion of 15 years, his dog, Missy.
In honor of Donald’s memory, memorials may be made to St. Croix Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association.
The family wishes to thank Lancaster Health Services and St. Croix Hospice for their exceptional care of Donald in his final days.
