Russell Blumer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thomas Funeral Home - Centerville on Dec. 16, 2025.
On the day that marked the beginning of his life, Russell William Blumer quietly completed his circle, passing away on his birthday at the age of 82.
Russell was born on December 15, 1943, in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Maurice Wayne and Ruth (White) Blumer. He graduated from Moravia High School with the Class of 1962. He furthered his education at a trade school, learning Drafting, Electronics and Appliance Repair.
Russell proudly enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country faithfully and was honorably discharged, a commitment he carried with quiet pride throughout his life.
On August 17, 1990, Russell was united in marriage to Margie Mae Garrett in Memphis, Missouri. Together they shared many years marked by love, companionship, and devotion to family.
On any given day, Russell could be seen walking along Highway 5 with his walking stick in hand waving at traffic, a familiar and comforting sight to many. He thoroughly enjoyed his daily walks and, in his later years, developed a fondness for reading. In his earlier years, Russell loved the outdoors-especially hunting, fishing, as well as finding and making arrowheads.
Above all else, Russell cherished every moment spent with his family. He was a very kind man who would do anything for anyone, a gentle soul with a big heart whose warmth and generosity touched all who knew him.
Left to honor Russell's memory are his children, Daniel Wayne (Ana) Blumer, Samuel James Blumer, and Dawna Kay (Robert) Beck; his grandchildren, Daniel Johnston, Megan (Sam) DeVore, Schyler Beck, Jakkob Blumer, and Rick Blumer; his step grandson, R.J.; as well as several extended family members and friends.
Russell was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Mae Blumer on July 30, 2020; and his parents, Maurice and Ruth Blumer.
Per Russell's wishes, cremation has been accorded. Private family services will take place in Rural Scottland County, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to either EveryStep Hospice or Mystic American Legion, and may be mailed to Thomas Funeral Home, ATTN: Blumer Family, 501 North 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
