Donald J. Boehm, 91, of W.E. Jamestown passed away Saturday (February 1, 2025) in UPMC Chautauqua.
He was born December 31, 1933 in Buffalo, NY to Clarence "Buck" and Josephine Kuehn BOEHM.
Donald grew up in Sheridan and Dunkirk NY and spent many of his younger years on Lake Erie fishing, swimming, scuba diving, duck hunting, and one summer worked as a lifeguard.
He attended Dunkirk schools.
He was a Veteran of the Korean conflict era and served in the U.S. Navy from January 1951 to November 1954 when he received an honorable discharge. While there he served as a boiler tender aboard the USS Waccamaw 109 which was a tanker refueling other ships in the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. Donald first married Sue Ann Stromdahl of Fredonia, NY in 1955.
He was employed by Niagara Mohawk Power Company as a Lineman from 1955 to 1965. While working there he joined the Falconer Police Reserves in 1961. He then was hired as a part-time Falconer Police Officer in 1962. In 1965 he became a full time officer and worked there until 1969 when he became a Town of Ellicott Police Officer. Later that same year he was promoted to Sergeant. He was a certified Police Firearms Instructor. He retired in 1984.
Donald was an avid hunter and enjoyed metal detecting. He was very knowledgeable of guns. He was a Civil War buff and traced the battlefields of his grandfather's 14th US Infantry and who was severely wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg. In the early 60's Donald belonged to the North-South Skirmish Association who held Civil War Reenactments. He loved to watch boxing, especially the old fight films of the 40's and 50's. Rocky Marciano was his favorite boxer. He also boxed aboard ship while in the Navy. He loved motorcycles and was proud of his previously owned 1975 Harley Davidson Electra Glide. His bike was the first one sold by Harley Davidson of Jamestown. He enjoyed spending time with his sons hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles, snowmobiles, shooting, and many other things.
Donald is survived by his sons Donald Jr. (Kathleen) of Salisbury, NC, Brian (Karen) of Kiantone, NY, his brother Robert (Sallie) of Dunkirk, NY, grandchildren Kelly Carr of Jamestown, Jamie Cabrera of Salisbury, NC, Amanda Burris (Chase) of Salisbury, NC, Carrie Snyder of Gallatin, TN, and Michelle CONROY (Rob) of Scottsdale, AZ. He is also survived by 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; He is preceded in death by his second wife Shirley Blanton Shoemaker Boehm, who he married in 1982 and died in 2022, his father Clarence in 1949, his mother Josephine Spruell (Basil) in 1991 and a half sister Adelle (Elim) Elliott in 2003.
A private funeral service will be held in the Falconer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
