Donald Earl Brooks, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully -, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, service, and generosity that touched countless lives. Born on June 9, 1937, in Pasay City, Philippines, Donald's life was defined by courage, hard work, and an unwavering love for family and community.
At the age of 16, Donald left the Philippines with his brother Robert to begin a new chapter in the United States-a journey that reflected the boldness and determination that would come to define his life. He later graduated from University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1970.
Donald proudly served his adopted country in the United States Army, where he built a distinguished military career over the course of many years. Through dedication, discipline, and leadership, he rose through the ranks to retire with honor as a Chief Warrant Officer, Level 4. His service was not only a testament to his character but also an embodiment of his deep sense of duty and commitment.
Donald's adventurous spirit led him to Costa Rica, where he would meet the love of his life, Yarina, with whom he built a remarkable partnership lasting decades. Together, they created a family and a life filled with purpose and devotion. Donald's vision and entrepreneurial drive made him a pillar of the Flamingo Beach community; he was among its founding members and his efforts played a pivotal role in shaping the area into the cherished destination it has become.
Over the years, Donald spearheaded the development of the Flamingo Beach Hotel, the Presidential Suites, a church in Brasilito, and residential communities throughout North Point. His work reflected not only his business acumen but also his commitment to building spaces that could be shared, lived in, and enjoyed by others. Donald continued contributing to the community he loved up until his final days.
In his personal life, Donald was known for being a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan and telling jokes that brought laughter to family and friends. He had a deep love for music, especially the timeless voices of Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, and Frank Sinatra.
Donald is survived by his eternally devoted wife, Yarina, and his four children-Donald, Pam, Jessica, and Diana-all of whom carry forward his wit, strength, and resilience. He is also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren-Sara, Sandra, Joshua, Kristen, Mitch and Henry – and by his great-granddaughter Joelle, all of whom brought immeasurable joy.
His legacy lives on in the places he built, the people he shaped, and the countless lives he touched. He will be deeply missed, but the memory of his warmth, his laughter, his love for music. and his extraordinary life will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
