Donald B. Buchanan, age 75, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025. He was born on December 17, 1949, in Malden, Massachusetts to Malcolm and Dorothy (née Pugsley) Buchanan.

At the age of nine, Donald moved with his family to Lorain, Ohio, when his father was transferred from the Ford Plant in Massachusetts to the Lorain Plant. He spent 19 years in Lorain before making Amherst his home.

A 1967 graduate of Lorain Admiral King High School, Donald went on to further his education at Lorain County Community College, earning his associate degree in Liberal Arts in 1969. He built a long and dedicated career at U.S. Steel, where he worked as an inspector in the 3 Seamless Pipe Mill for 33 years, retiring in 2007.

Donald had a passion for life's simple pleasures. He loved garage sales and bargain hunting, visiting family and retired co-workers from U.S. Steel, and taking long walks in the park with his dog. A devoted advocate against animal abuse, he made monthly donations to the Friendship Animal Protective League in Elyria. Donald also had a lifelong love of music-especially Doo-Wop and Classic Rock-and enjoyed attending concerts with his wife.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mary (née Drennan) Buchanan; his son, Brian (Shannon) Buchanan of Elyria; his daughter, Melissa Buchanan of Lorain; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Malcolm and Dorothy Buchanan, and his brother, Neil Buchanan.

Private family services were held under the direction of the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.dovinreberjones.com.
