Donald "Don" Edward Burger, 91, of Hatboro, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully with his wife, Eileen, at his side on March 31, 2023. He had been fighting a courageous seven year battle with cancer.
Don was born February 4, 1932 in Allentown, PA to parents Clavellan and Helen Burger. He was the eighth of nine children born to the family. Don's father took a job in Philadelphia, when Don was 9 and the family moved to a home in Holmesburg, Pennsylvania. After high school, Don enlisted in the U.S. army serving during the Korean War. After completing his service in the army, Don enrolled at Drexel University and graduated as a mechanical engineer.
Don met his wife, Eileen McGee, on a blind date and they were married in 1958 and just recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Their family quickly expanded with four children; Jane, Susan, Dianne, and John. Family and the extended family were important to Don and it was celebrated annually in the Poconos with a Burger Family Reunion.
Don had many hobbies but had a special passion for the outdoors and travelling. There was a weekly golf date with good friends which allowed him to blend the outdoors with one of his favorite sports. He could be found many times in good weather hiking or walking, often in search of birds. Of course, travelling incorporated family time with adventure. Don visited 17 national parks, experienced visiting many western European countries with Eileen and perhaps his most favorite trip, driving the original route 66 and all it has to offer.
Don, was predeceased by his mother, father and his brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Eileen and his children and their spouses, Jane and Michael Patitucci, Susan and Barry Martin, Dianne and Bob Gallagher, and John and Maureen Burger, 10 grandchildren, Michael, Christina, Jennifer, Tyler, Andrew, Matt, Greg, Scott, Audrey, and Catherine and 1 great granddaughter, Natalie, born in 2023.
Relatives and friends are invited to Don's Life Celebration on April 11, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. John Bosco Church, 215 E. County Line Rd., Hatboro, PA. A memorial Mass will begin at 11:00 AM followed by Don's inurnment at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown. In lieu of flowers, the Burger family has requested donations in Don's name be made to St. John Bosco Catholic Church.
