Donald Carter 86, of Montcalm West Virginia, passed away peacefully at the Emogene Dolin Joan’s Hospice House of Huntington, West Virginia, on December 2nd, 2024. 

He was born in Fall River, WV on November 29th, 1938, to the parents of Charlie and Mary (Blankenship) Carter. He lived most of his life in Big Sandy and Roderfield, WV.

Donald was one of nine siblings and attended Welch schools. He was a disabled coal miner, a backyard mechanic, and avid “horse trader”. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Harold, Ronnie, Jerry, and Larry Carter, as well as his sister, Beatrice Homan. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Patricia “Shan” (Hall) Carter, son Donald D. (Sherry) Carter of Kingston, TN, Joseph (Pam) Carter of Princeton, WV, Sonja (Scott) Nicholas of Huntington, WV, Robert (Laura) Carter of Seattle, WA, Kenneth (Marsha) Carter of Huntington, WV, and Patricia (Joey) Wright of Princeton, WV. He had a Grandson, Joshua Carter of the home who he helped raise and who was a helpful caregiver in the last years of Donald’s life. He was the proud grandfather of eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters Emogene Brown, of Shrewsbury, WV, Dorothy (Rodger) Cooper of Diamond, WV, Drema Faye Pedrero of Elizabeth, NJ, along with a host of friends and family. 

He was a member of the Montcalm Church of God for the last 22 years, previously a member of Big Sandy Church of God. Service will be held December 6th, 2024, at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home of Bluefield, WV. Visitation at 10 AM, service to follow at 11 AM with Reverend Mac Riggins and Joey Wright officiating. Graveside service to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV. Pallbearers, Greg Lester, Joshua Carter, Evan Wright, Joseph Carter, James Carter, Doug Hall, and honorary pallbearer Justin Carter. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Montcalm Church of God; 279 Rock Road Montcalm WV, 24737.
