Donald Edward Curry Sr., age 69, passed away on February 18, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, love, and strength.
Donald proudly served his country in the United States Army, obtaining the rank of Sgt 1st Class, retiring in 1998 after a distinguished military career marked by discipline, leadership, and honor. Even after retirement, his commitment to guiding others continued as he served as a U.S. Army Career Counselor at Fort Meade and later at Charlotte MEPS, mentoring countless young men and women as they began their journeys of service.
Following his military career, Donald embraced business ownership as CEO of Shyne Bright Lyke A Diamond Mobile Detailing, where his work ethic and pride in excellence reflected the standards by which he lived his life.
Donald met the love of his life at Hechinger's in Laurel, Maryland, and from that day forward their lives were joined in devotion and love. Together, he and his beloved wife, Shirley M. Curry, built a home grounded in faith, family, laughter, and unwavering commitment. He was an amazing husband, a devoted father, and a steady source of strength and protection.
A man of deep faith, Donald was a member of Emanuel Baptist Church in Maryland under the leadership of Pastor Byron Day. He later joined Living Water Ministry, where he faithfully served as Trustee, Man talk Instructor, Choir member, and occasional presider of the Order of Service. He brought joy to the congregation through church plays and skits, most memorably portraying "Deacon Getright," a role that reflected his humor, warmth, and heart for ministry.
Donald was known for always looking sharp and being "squared away," carrying himself with dignity, confidence, and pride. He showed love through service - especially in the kitchen - where family and friends eagerly gathered for his signature barbecue ribs, grilled steak, and unforgettable pineapple upside-down cake.
He shared wisdom freely and led by example. To his sons, he would say:
"Make sure your mom's okay - don't worry about me."
To the men he mentored and encouraged:
"We must recognize when we are weak and change. Be stronger; but we can't do it without the Lord!"
His words reflected the humility, strength, and faith by which he lived.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Montez Curry, brother Charles Curry and sister Linda McNair.
Donald leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Shirley M. Curry; his sons, Donald Edward Curry Jr. and Donovan Edward Curry; his daughter, Patrice Curry; stepson Gregory Hatley Jr. (Gabby); stepdaughter Shirley "Marie" Hatley; and his cherished grandchildren, Alex, Jayden, Jemi, and Jaylah. His brother Benjamin Curry, sister Cynthia Grey along with multiple nieces and nephews and a host of others family and dear friends.
Donald's life was a testimony of service, strength, laughter, and unwavering faith. His love continues to shine in the hearts of all who knew him.
"We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." 2 Corinthians 5:8
