Mrs. Joyce Bowden Richardson, age 76 of Troutman was born March 21, 1949, in Durham, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, at the Gordon Hospice House.
A proud graduate of Durham High School, Class of 1967, Joyce began her professional career in banking, where she dedicated many years of service. Later in life, she followed her creative passions, pivoting from her career in banking to fully embrace her love of crafting by owning and operating her own craft shop. She poured her time and energy into her store, sharing handmade creations and her gift for creativity with the community she cherished.
On February 14, 1981, she married Elbert Hoke Richardson. During his years of service as longtime mayor of Troutman, Joyce stood faithfully by his side, offering steady support and strength in all of his efforts.
Joyce found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved knitting, collecting Beanie Babies, crafting, and cooking meals that brought family together. One of her greatest joys was cheering on her son Jarrod at countless soccer games - always his proudest supporter.
She is survived by her son, Jarrod Hoke Richardson of Statesville, North Carolina; and her brother, Lundea Earl Bowden of Durham, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elbert Hoke Richardson; her parents, Gertrude Inez Wright and Evis Ray Bowden; her sister, Diane Clark Bowden; and her sons, Douglas Elbert Richardson and Randall Scott Richardson.
A private graveside celebration will be held on February 20, 2026. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, North Carolina.
