David Kershaw Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home & Crematory - Statesboro on Feb. 18, 2026.
David Alan Kershaw passed away unexpectedly on February 15, 2026, surrounded by his wife and family. He was born on January 31, 1949, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Betty Fier Kershaw and Richard A. Kershaw of Euclid, Ohio. From an early age, David possessed a compassionate heart and a curious mind, qualities that guided him throughout his life and defined the man he became.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Sr. and Betty Kershaw of Kirtland, Ohio, as well as his in-laws, Charles and Eleanor Sharp of Willowick, Ohio.

Dave was a graduate from Euclid High School, and a graduate of The Ohio State University and received his MBA from Baldwin Wallace. He was an active member of Hope Ridge Church, in Mentor, Ohio. Dave was Past President of the Lake County Ohio State Alumni Chapter and a lifetime member of the Ohio State University Alumni Association.

Dave proudly served his country as an officer in the United States Army, embodying the values of loyalty, courage, and service. Following his military service, he began his civilian career in a college training program with Caterpillar in Mentor, Ohio, where he worked for ten years until the facility relocated to Korea. He then joined The Illuminating Company at the Perry Nuclear Power Plant in Perry, Ohio. His career progressed with a promotion to the corporate offices in Berea, later returning closer to home at the Eastlake Power Plant. After industry deregulation and the company's acquisition by Toledo Edison, Dave's career took him out of Ohio, moving first to North Carolina and then to Savannah, Georgia, where he spent nearly 15 years in Purchasing at Gulfstream. There, he became known for his dedication, integrity, and exceptional problem-solving skills.

In retirement, despite facing health challenges, Dave remained steadfast in his devotion to his family. He found his greatest joy traveling with his beloved wife to visit their grandchildren, cherishing every moment together.

Known for his sharp sense of humor and generous spirit, Dave was always willing to lend a helping hand. He devoted countless hours to coaching Bantam football and baseball and served as a Boy Scout leader, proudly guiding his sons as they earned the rank of Eagle Scout. A dedicated Mentor High School Booster, he enthusiastically supported the football team, band, and majorettes. He also had a legendary talent for maintaining a meticulously organized "tool room," always prepared with just the right part or solution for anyone in need.

Family was the heart of Dave's life. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sandra (Sharp) Kershaw, his best friend and the love of his life. He leaves behind his children: Kimberly (Joe) Vanek of Davenport, Florida; Kristen Rosu of Naples, Florida; David (Jenn) Kershaw of Troutman, North Carolina; and Jason (Callie) Kershaw of Westerville, Ohio. He was the proud grandfather of eleven grandchildren: Ashley, Courtney, Mitchel, Nina, Zoe, Tommy, Kalea, Jack, Alexa, Finn, and Zia, and two great-granddaughters, Aurora and Riley.

He is also survived by his siblings: Richard (Gladys) Kershaw of Strongsville, Ohio; James (Janet) Kershaw of Avon, Ohio; Cindy (Tod) Schnieder of Canton, Ohio; and Janet (Herb) Appleton of Windermere, Florida, along with many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Dave will be remembered as a devoted husband, an extraordinary father who instilled strong values rooted in integrity and determination, and a proud grandfather whose love knew no bounds. His life was a testament to wisdom, strength, selfless service, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.

He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered with enduring love by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Dave's family. He was a great co-worker and friend at CEI, and he also coached T-Ball for my middle son, Brian. Gary Leidich and family

Prayers being lifted for family and friends as he was definitely an awesome individual and totally lived for his family. Worked with David at Gulfstream for his 15 years as well as being friends with him and Sandy. He is no longer having pain and is celebrating in heaven. He is at peace.

We enjoyed time with Sandy and Dave when they would meet us for lunch on their visits to see their daughter in Naples. I remember when he asked the waitress to take a picture of us and he handed her a camera. The look on her face was so funny, she had never used a camera before. Dave was a great friend and co worker, will miss him very much. Ann & Tony Costa

Dave and Sandy´s relationship was so special and I loved how they both traveled around to see family and friends. Dave was such a great guy-kind, funny, and thoughtful. I spent a lot of hours in the van with him as he drove DJ, Jason, and me back and forth between Ohio State and Mentor. He was always funny and great to talk to. Family meant everything to him, and it was always inspiring to see how much he loved being a Dad and Grandpa (and Great Grandpa)! My deepest condolences, thoughts, and prayers are with you all. Dave will be missed... Allen
