Donald Delmore Obituary

Published by Legacy on Aug. 18, 2025.
Donald James Delmore 1942-2025

Donald James Delmore of East Lyme, Connecticut, entered eternal rest on August 10, 2025.

He was born in New London, Connecticut in 1942 to Frank and Eileen Delmore, devoted parents. Equally devoted to Don, as he was to them, were his Aunt Margaret and Uncle Jimmy, who were like a second set of parents to Don.

Don attended St. Mary's Grammar School in New London. He graduated from Waterford High School in 1960 and went on to study political science at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. Don continued his education at Western New England College in Springfield, Massachusetts, proudly obtaining his law degree, which served him well in a long, rewarding career in insurance contract law.

Don met his future wife, Jeannette MacDonald, at Waterford High School where they were both part of the inaugural Class of 1960; Don was Student Council President and Jeannette Student Council Secretary. This was the beginning of a 59-year everlasting bond flowering into a most cherished family. The two were married in New London on April 23, 1966.

Don is also survived by his son Michael (Stephanie), and their children Hannah and Owen; his daughter Andrea (John) and their children Conor and Logan. Don's grandchildren, who knew him as "Pa," were the light of his life, and he embraced Stephanie and John as his very own.

Don was an avid reader of sports writing, which fed his own talent for writing, evidenced by his reflective and heartfelt memoirs that his family continues to treasure. His involvement with sports included playing high school and college basketball, enjoying a long love affair with the game of golf, and faithfully watching his favorite sports teams, most notably the Boston Red Sox.

Don will always be remembered for his smile, humor, and the way that he genuinely enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

There will be a private family gathering and memorial in his honor. For anyone wishing to express their sympathies in the form of a donation, the family suggests Connecticut Hospice in Branford, Connecticut.
