I found this because I was looking at old things and remembered my favorite teacher in high school so looked him up - Mr. dumais- the reason I got a sociology degree. I cried a tear knowing nobody will be lucky enough to be taught by him again. I have no doubt he was an incredible man personally too and I´m so sorry for your loss. I´ll never forget him, he really was amazing and he changed my path and taught me so much!

My deepest sense of loss and shared sorrow to you, Melinda. Don was a wonderfully warm colleague and a friend and guide to so many during his time at South High. We were all encouraged and engaged by his warm smile and genuine laughter.
The two of you were such a good match. The love of adventure and the willingness to try something unexpected or new to both of you was like a beacon to others. Fear or uncertainty did not stop you.
You may well remember the visit we had with the two of you after you had moved to Arizona. We had not been to your home and this was before 'navigation technology' We were carefully following the directions we had been given when we looked up and here in the middle of the neighborhood road was Don. Dressed in a whited ironed shirt and khaki slacks, his normal dapper self, he was standing like a stick man gently waving both hands and guiding us through the last two turns. Here too he was laughing and enjoying the time to greet and welcome us into your AZ space. He was a treasure.
Thank you for sharing him with us and know you are in my heart and prayers.
