Donald Dean Eckart, 91 passed away peacefully on Wednesday November 26,2025 at Eventide in Jamestown, ND.
Don (Buddy) was born January 3rd, 1934 to Arthur & Louise (Jarosch) Eckart in Martin, ND. He attended rural schools in the Martin area.
He enlisted in the National Guard and was a Tank Crewman. Due to medical issues, he was honorably discharged.
He had three children from his first marriage to Eunice Hager; One daughter Rose, and two sons Barry and Lowell.
He met the love of his life Betty. He was blessed with adding her children Blaine, Sonja, Larry and Shane into his life. Don & Betty were married in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 15, 1970. In 1971 they welcomed their daughter Jennifer.
Don worked most of his life as a mechanic. He and Betty started D&B Diesel Repair in California where they worked side by side until his stroke. In 1985 they moved back to North Dakota and Betty bought Sportsman Bar & Cafe in Spiritwood, ND. Don & Betty enjoyed their years working together and meeting many friends that became like family. Don always kept himself busy helping wherever he could. He enjoyed visiting, telling stories, and loved to joke around with people. He was an avid hunter and loved all of his hunting adventures.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty. Sons Lowell (Sharon), Barry (Sharon), Oregon. Daughter Jennifer (Mark) Schumacher. Daughter Sonja (Jim) Fettig, Son Larry (Kim) Ford, all of Jamestown. 12 Grandchildren & 7 Great Grandchildren, with another one expected in the spring of 2026. His brothers Allan, Robert (Gloria), Steve (Kathy)Eckart. His Sisters Joyce Bentz, Marlene Wixon, Carol (Fred) Martin, Marge (John) Wagenaar, Kathy Grossman, & Judy Eckart.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Rose, sisters Bonnie & Vernice, brother Larry, & Betty’s children Blaine & Shane Ford.
Visitation-10-11 AM, Monday, December 1, 2025, Haut Funeral Home, 1101 5th Ave NE, Jamestown.
Funeral Service-11 AM, Monday, December 1, 2025, Haut Funeral Home, 1101 5th Ave NE, Jamestown.
Interment- Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.
