Donald Bishop Fitch, of St. Charles, Missouri, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2025, at the age of 97. Beloved other half of Carolyn Schlueter; cherished son of the late Carl G. and Eva B. Fitch; devoted father of Beverly (Charles) Roberts, Carl M. (Carolyn) Fitch, and the late Joseph Fitch; loving grandfather of 16 and great grandfather of 10; dear brother of Carl Fitch and the late Joe Fitch.
Don and Carolyn were blessed to spend 27 wonderful years together and they still liked each other. Don always said that liking someone was even more important than loving someone. They met through their shared love of music and swing dancing and went on to complete in dance contests across the country. Don was especially proud to be named Midwest Swing Dance Champion of both Missouri and Illinois. He earned his degree in mechanical engineering from Florida State University and began his career at McDonnell Douglas, later founding his own successful firm, Fitch and Associates, where he was joined by his business partner and longtime friend Dennis Kallash. Don had a good sense of humor and was a man of many passions. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and often shared stories about his unforgettable trip to Alaska. He was deeply involved in the Spirits of St. Louis Radio Control Flying Club where he served as president for three years. He took great joy in building and flying R/C model planes and his woodworking skills were beautifully detailed and precise. One of Don's favorite lines whenever Carolyn left the house was: "Have fun and be sure to call me when you’re on the way home so I can get the dancing girls out of here." So, in true Don fashion, the family hopes all stay for Celebration of Life where they will be sharing memories, laughter, and music. Among the tributes, there will be a special performance by The Tambouriners from the Ms. Missouri Senior America 2021 Cameo Club, playing tambourines to the classic Maple Leaf Rag. We just know that Don will be smiling from ear to ear, seeing everyone gathered in joy and remembrance. Don loved his family deeply and was proud of each and every one. Let us come together to remember and celebrate the vibrant, witty, and loving man who brought music, joy and friendship to so many lives.
In lieu of flowers, may we suggest a donation to the American Cancer Society in Don's memory.
