Donald Garee Obituary

Donald Glenn Garee passed away peacefully, at the age of 91, Thursday, October 30, 2025. Glenn was born May 25, 1934, in Spraggs, a son of the late Donald Garee and the late Nellie Zimmerman Garee. He spent his youth in the rural countryside between Scenery Hill and Marianna, and was a 1952 graduate of West Beth High School. Glenn served in Europe as an aircraft radio repairman in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Upon his return home, his service experience led him to pursue a diploma from Penn Technical Institute as an electronics technician. On Aprill 11, 1959, he was married to Dorothy "Dot" Virginia Thomas, in Zollarsville Chapel, Zollarsville, who survives. Glenn worked for the General Electric Corporation in Syracuse, N.Y. Upon the closure of the plant, he decided to come home, where he found employment with the RCA Corporation. He worked at its Meadowlands facility for 20 years until it, too, closed. He spent the remaining years until his retirement as the tool room manager at Ross Mould in Washington. Glenn was the king of Dad jokes. He always had a joke or a story to tell. Glenn was a member of Liberty Methodist Church and a man of quiet faith, which was ever apparent in his unending patience and his readiness and willingness to help others, be it a friend, acquaintance, or total stranger, regardless of the cost of time or inconvenience to him. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball. Once he moved into the community, he was a member of the South Franklin Volunteer Fire Department. In later years, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, tinkering in his yard and garage, taking and viewing pictures and videos, and investigating his family history. In addition to Dot, his wife and devoted companion for 66 years, Glenn is survived by a daughter, Bonnie and husband Dan McAnallen of Washington; five grandchildren, Angela "Angi" Smith and husband Jeff of Newell, Kelly Roddy and husband Eric Johnson of Washington, Lisa Post and husband Justen of Washington, James "Jim" McAnallen of Burke, Va., and Donald "Donny" McAnallen and wife Stephanie of Washington. Also surviving are 10 great-grandchildren, Zachary Smith and wife Layna, Aaron Smith, Keira Roddy, Cameron Post, Elias McAnallen, Daven McAnallen, Henry McAnallen, Abram McAnallen, Rowen McAnallen and Auden McAnallen: one great- great-granddaughter, Delilah Smith; several nieces and nephews, whom he was especially close to: Karen Spin and husband Bob, and Terry Horne and wife Dora; and numerous, great- and great-great nieces and nephews, and cousins. Friends are invited to the William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, PA 15301 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, November 2. A funeral service will take place in the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. Monday, November 3, with the Rev. Kevin Haley officiating. Burial to follow at Horn Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to https://pavetpets.org/, in loving memory of "Glenn".
