Donald J. Hahn, 92, of Oil City, PA. and most recently of Franklin passed away Dec. 27, 2024 at UPMC-Hamot in Erie after a brief period of declining health.
Born March 10, 1932 in Fryburg, PA., he was the second oldest child of Alexander and Frances Smerker Hahn.
Don graduated in 1950 from Shippenville High School.
He was drafted into the United states Army in 1953 and served overseas with the 351st Regiment in Triest, Italy. Upon his return from service, He worked for Marble Oil., and later for J & L Steel, Van Huffell, and Webco.
He retired from the Cranberry School District.
Don was married to the love of his life Linda A. Brady in St. Michael's Church on Oct. 16, 1965 and she preceded him in death on March 10, 2012. They enjoyed 46 years of marriage together.
He was the proud father of two children
Amy Phillips and her husband Tim of Franklin and
Quay Hahn and his fiancé Holly McCauley of Oil City
Don was a sportsman and enjoyed hunting, bowling and golfing, and enjoyed doing all of these well into his eighties and early nineties.
His passion was baseball, he played many years in the Hayrake League for both Fryburg and Venus.
He was bestowed the nickname "Hurler Hahn" because of his pitching prowess.
Don played softball in the Oil City 35 and over league for many years.
He was an avid volunteer for the Cranberry Little League, Cranberry Girls Softball and for Venango Christian High School.
Don belonged to many clubs in Oil City, the PNA, Eagles, VFW and Pulaski, but his favorite club was in his home town of Fryburg, the Fryburg Sportsmans Club.
He was a member there for over 50 years, he was a friend to all, but mainly the bartenders who took such good care of him.
In addition to his children, he is survived by 2 sisters
Rita Amsler and Bonnie Huth, a sister in law Lois Brady
And nieces Bonnie, Connie,Dawn, Linda, Jill and Jackie
His nephews Bill, Todd, Marty and Ty and many friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Bill, brothers-in-law Quay Brady and Gary Amsler, niece Cheryl, nephew Bruce and a nephew Brian who died in infancy.
Per his request there will be no visitation.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on January 18 at St. Michael's Church in Fryburg at 11:00 A.M.
The Reinsel Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
