Donald Hanson Obituary

Donald C. Hanson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, passed away on November 20, 2025, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Salt Lake City. He was born on September 18, 1947, and lived a life marked by dedication, service, and love.

A proud veteran, Don served his country in the United States Navy, participating in major conflicts including Viet Nam and Desert Storm. His commitment to excellence led him to achieve the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer. His military career was not just a duty but a source of pride, with fond memories of being stationed in Hawaii, where he deepened his appreciation for the history of Pearl Harbor, and traveled to places such as Japan, Russia, and Italy.

Don's education began in Davis County Schools, followed by a brief stint at Weber College before he answered the call to serve his nation. He was known for his logistical astuteness, keen intelligence, and great prowess in mathematics and science. Don was not only smart but possessed a kind and observant nature. He was an excellent listener, always bringing humor and warmth to those around him.

As a husband, he was dependable and dedicated, standing as a partner and caretaker for his beloved wife. He valued stability and often sought to avoid unnecessary drama in life. Don's strength extended beyond his military accomplishments; he was an excellent father, proud of his children and their achievements, a legacy he cherished deeply.

In his leisure time, Don found joy in golfing, particularly on the beautiful courses of Hawaii. He enjoyed woodworking, took pleasure in solving crosswords, and could often be found playing computer solitaire or tuning into TV game shows.

Don is survived by his loving spouse, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters, brother, and several nieces and nephews, all of whom will carry forward the legacy of his unwavering dedication to family and country.

He joins his parents in eternal rest, leaving behind a world that will remember him for his kind spirit, stable presence, and commitment to those he loved dearly. He will be missed profoundly by all who had the honor of knowing him.

A memorial gathering will be held Sunday, December 7, 2025 at Lindquist Layton Mortuary, 1867 Fairfield Rd., from 2 to 5 PM where full military honors will be accorded at 2 PM sharp.
