DONALD PEDRO HICKS was born on June 5, 1946 in Trenton NJ, the second of five sons of the late Ernest Sr. and Flora Hicks. He joined the Navy in 1963 and traveled the globe. He met and married Hazel Morgan Hicks when he was stationed in Washington D.C. and they remained joined in marriage for 53 years until her death in 2017. Donald and Hazel had one son, Ronald Leon, who also predeceased him.
After serving 4 years in the Navy, Donald returned to the Washington DC area where he primarily worked for the D.C. Department of Corrections. There, he was awarded many honors for outstanding service and was promoted through the ranks to become the Director of Recreation. He retired after 30 years of service and he and Hazel moved to the warmer climate of Spartanburg, SC.
While living in Spartanburg, Donald started having serious health challenges. In late 2019, he reconnected with his high school friend, Betty Burke, and while visiting her in High Point, became ill and required emergency hospitalization. Together they decided he should remain in High Point until his health improved. He did get better at that time but due to the corona virus restrictions, new doctors and his overall general wellbeing, he never returned to Spartanburg. Betty was his constant companion and caregiver. She was with him as he entered the eternal presence of God.
Donald leaves to morn his passing his special friend, Betty Burke, two brothers, Jerome and Alan Hicks, sister-in-law Patricia A. Hicks (late Ernest Jr.), special friends/brothers in law, Sanford and Joseph Morgan, Jr., nieces, nephews, pin-laws, other relatives and friends. May his legacy of love, kindness, and selfless acts of service last forever in our hearts.
No services are planned at this time.
