Donald Lee Holbrook died on October 9, 2024, after a long fight with a chronic illness. Donald was born on January 16,1940 in Nashville Tennessee. He was 84 when he passed in Auburn Georgia. His father was Yancy Carman Holbrook, and his mother was Mable Garner Holbrook. He was raised in the Decatur Georgia area along with his brother David. He went to Druid Hills High School and then studied at Georgia Tech where he graduated in 1963.
Donald met Patricia (Patsy) Kelly while at Tech and they were married in 1960. Donald and Patsy had two sons, Robert Holbrook and Ronald Holbrook. They had four grandchildren: Robin Holbrook, Rebecca Holbrook, Katie Holbrook and Peyton Holbrook. His parents and brother David have all preceded him in death. Later in life Donald divorced and thenmarried Ann Norman. They divorced later as well.
Donald then moved in 2007 to North Carolina to live in his beloved mountains. He stayed there until a few years ago when he moved back to the Atlanta area to be near his sons and grandchildren. Donald was a paperboy while growing up in Decatur. His first big job after college was with Goodyear in Akron Ohio. After a few years there he moved his family back to the Atlanta area in 1965 and started working at the Colonial Pipeline Company. He retired after a 30- year career.
Donald loved the woods and the mountains and enjoyed spelunking.
He was a lifetime Atlanta Falcons season ticket holder. He also loved tennis. Donald loved dogs and had many over the course of his life. He will be sorely missed. A celebration of life will be held later.
