With heavy hearts, we announce the death of our beloved Nigel “Smokey” Charles on March 11, 2026.
Nigel Stephenson Charles of Castries, St. Lucia passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. Nigel’s passion for the game of soccer led him to coach recreational soccer for many years in Connecticut and he continued playing in the over 40 leagues. Nigel loved problem solving and it led him to a life-long career as an electronic technician with AT&T, where he met many incredible friends. Nigel never met a stranger; he always had a positive outlook on life and never missed an opportunity to make a joke to see all those around him smile and laugh. He was a devoted husband of 46 years, a loving father, and a loyal friend. He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Charles, his children Nydie and Darren Charles and their families, his granddaughter Liliana Charles, his many siblings, together with their families, Colly Charles, Linda Charles, Liz Charles, Andre Charles, Eric Charles, Rosslyn Quintyne, Heather Hennecart, Solange Weeks, Deborah Charles, and Thea Charles. He is predeceased by his mother Doreen Charles, and his father Stanley Oliver Charles. Nigel was a loving and caring person to his family, friends, co- workers, and acquaintances, including his extended family, the Gutierrez family, Savita and Tyrone, and many other family and friends, too numerous to mention.
