Donald P Johnston

Youngstown – A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 am on Friday, March 13, at Clemente Funeral Home in Struthers for Donald P. Johnston, 60, died March 5 at Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest.

Don was born September 7, 1965, in Struthers a son of Don and Theresa Humbach Johnston. He graduated with a nursing degree. Don genuinely loved helping people, to such a degree, he centered his life around it. He worked as a registered ICU nurse and in Home Health Care for the majority of his career all over PA, OH, and CA.

Don valued the conversations and genuine connections he built with his patients which goes beyond the standard 9-5, often he would have conversations in the evening lending an ear to listen. He would even, on occasion, drive out late in the night to help change wound dressings because their comfort was exceedingly important and meaningful to Don.

"Dogs are not your whole life, but they make our lives whole." Robert Caras. Don's dogs held a special place in his heart, Reggie, Pugsly, Clifford, Lola, Lucy, Sophia, Stanley, Luey and Jacky. He connected with dogs so naturally because of his gentle spirit and the abundance of love he shared with them.

Don leaves his husband, Joe Grumbine, who he married on March 14, 2014.

Friends may call prior to the service on Friday, March 13, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at the Clemente Funeral Home at 700 Fifth Street in Struthers, OH, 44471.
