Donald Kellogg Obituary

Donald Kellogg, Jr.
September 17, 2025
Donald G. Kellogg, Jr., a cherished educator and devoted family man, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025, at the age of 80, at his home in Harwinton, CT, surrounded by his family. Born on March 11, 1945, in Torrington, CT, Donald dedicated over 37 years to teaching English with the Torrington Board of Education, where he inspired countless students to love literature.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Linda (Wistrom) Kellogg, with whom he shared 58 wonderful years of marriage; his son, Scott Kellogg (Juliette); and his daughter, Amy Yurgalevicz (Michael), both of Torrington, CT. Donald was a proud grandfather to eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his sister, Elaine Indomenico, of Middletown, CT; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Richard and Susan Bacca; several nieces and nephews, as well as numerous longtime friends.
Beyond his career in education, Donald was an avid golfer and a passionate musician, known for his drumming talents. He participated in two productions at The Warner Theatre, alongside Scott and Seth, and was a valued member of the band Sound Design, contributing his rhythmic skills to many beloved performances. His involvement extended into the community as a Little League coach and a coach for the Vogel School Basketball Team, where his impact on youth was profound. In addition to being an avid Drum Corps fan, he enjoyed watching the NY Mets, the NY Giants, and working summers at the Litchfield Country Club pro shop.
A true history enthusiast, Donald was also a Civil War buff, and his curiosity and love for learning extended beyond the classroom. He exemplified dedication, not only as a teacher, but also as a community leader, holding the esteemed title of 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus and being an active member of the St. Peter Holy Name Society.
Don was predeceased by his father, Donald G. Kellogg, Sr.; and his mother, Elizabeth "Betty" Weaver. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him and will forever be remembered for his warmth, kindness, and unwavering commitment to education and his family.
Visitation for friends and family will be held at Cook Funeral Home, located at 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, CT, on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
