Donald "Don" LeDuc, 83, of Newburgh, IN passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 29, 2023 at The Heritage Center.
Don graduated from Benjamin Bosse High School in 1958 where he was a star athlete in both football and track. A major highlight of his high school athletic career was being awarded the Kiwanis Football Award in his senior year. He attended the University of Evansville on a football scholarship and served as a Co-Captain for the team. Don was an active member of the of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity while attending UE. After graduating from UE with an Education Degree, he went on to Indiana State University to earn his Master's Degree. Don taught several subjects including Health, Physical Education and Driver's Education for EVSC for over three decades. Beyond teaching, Don inspired and mentored many students and athletes along the way with his witty and compassionate ways. He loved coaching and during his teaching career he held several coaching positions in football. He was an Assistant coach at Harrison and North and the Head coach at Central. Don was also the Head coach of Women's Gymnastics during his time at Harrison and Central. He coached state champions, state finalists and players that played at the professional level during his accomplished coaching career. During down time from teaching, he owned and operated LeDuc's Stay Sharp and Painting and spent many summers painting with his son Terry and former students.
Don was an avid railroad train collector and a member of SINS-Southern Indiana N-Gauge Scalers Club. He was a Minnesota Vikings fan, yet lived by the Lombardi code. Don loved being with his family, especially the time spent with his granddaughter Emily (Punkie Doo).
Don is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Mary, his children, Terrence "Terry" LeDuc and Laurel "Laurie" Bonenberger (David), and his granddaughter Emily Bonenberger. He is also survived by his bonus grandchildren Zachary Bonenberger (Molly) and Katherine Ackers (Mark), his brother Richard "Dick" LeDuc, his children, and dear friends that were like family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Marion LeDuc.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at The Heritage Center and Heritage Hospice for the loving care and support they provided.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2023 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville. Visitation will continue from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at the funeral home. Funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. with Father Ted Tempel officiating.

Duke was a wonderful guy and an excellent, loyal teammate. We played two years of football together at Bosse High School 1956 & 57. I truly enjoyed calling him a friend!
