FREDRICKTOWN - Donald R. Leichner, 77, of Fredericktown passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025
at the Country Court Nursing Center in Mount Vernon after a difficult battle with Cancer. He was born on November 15, 1947, in Columbus to the late Clarence and Easter (Daniels) Leichner.
Donald (Don), a true master of his crafts,is leaving behind a legacy of
creativity and skill. A talented machinist and master welder, Donald was known for his
precision and his ability to bring all of his ideas to life. His inventive spirit was evident in all he did, and he was always exploring new ways to create.Beyond his mechanical talents, Donald possessed a gentle artistic soul. He was an accomplished pencil artist, capturing intricate details with a keen eye. His love for color shone through his beautiful watercolor and oil paintings, each piece a testament to his passion.
Donald also had a deep connection to his community of Waterford. He found joy in
assisting his Amish neighbors, often taxiing them around, a service he provided with kindness and a generous spirit. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Donald is survived by his wife, Kimberly (Steward) Leichner, whom he married on
April 2, 1977; children, Donnetta (Shawn) Loomis of Reynoldsburg, Carol (John)
Dages of Canal Winchester, Ronda Bircher of Fredericktown, Kevin (Christina
Canter) Leichner of Marion, Jamey (Julie) Lundy of Portsmouth; and Donald
Michael (Annie Smith) Leichner of Mount Vernon; 12 grandchildren and 14 greats
grandchildren; a brother, Larry (Connie) Leichner of Lebanon, VA; niece, Linda
(Henry) Sumerlott of Florida; numerous other nieces and nephews; and former
son-in-law, William Bircher of Fredericktown.
In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by a daughter, Denise
Johnson; brothers, Floyd Daniels, Chuck Leichner and Bill Leichner; and sisters,
Betty Lou Sumerlott, Dolores Brill, Wanda McDonald and Rosemary Leichner.
The family will have a private service at a later date.
