83 of Park Falls, joined our Lord God at Marshfield Medical Center-Weston on Saturday April 23, 2022.
Donald was born August 5, 1938 in Eisenstein to George and Louise (Herbst) Leitl. He attended St. Anthony's Elementary School and graduated from Park Falls High School. He served four years in the Air Force, including time in Japan. He returned to Park Falls and worked at Flambeau Paper Mill where he eventually became maintenance supervisor until his retirement.
He married Margaret Hoefferle on August 10, 1963 at St Anthony's Catholic Church where he was an active member his entire life, serving on the council and taking a lead role in the rectory remodel. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, earning his 4th Degree, Grand Knight, and District Deputy. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his instrumental contributions to the following events; Tootsie Roll Drive, Park Manor Color Rama Tour, Christmas fruit baskets for widows, 4th of July Celebration, including the world's smallest bar.
Donald was also a proud lifetime member of the Heisler-Mockler VFW Post 6903. He served as Quartermaster for many years where he contributed to the Veterans Flag Memorial at Nola Cemetery and participated in presenting Christmas gifts to all the veterans at the local nursing home. He was also responsible for making all the kolaches for the annual VFW 4th of July breakfast at the fireman's stand.
Don is survived by his children Ann Oikari Park Falls, Michelle Elliott River Falls WI. , Daniel (Kate) Leitl Park Falls WI. , David (Kim) Leitl Milwaukee WI. Eight grandchildren Heather (Dion) Dahlgren, Elizabeth Bejcek, William Bejcek, Jesse Bejcek, Douglas (Missi) Leitl, Kaitlyn Leitl, Maxwell Elliott, Andrea Elliott, four great-grandchildren, Isabel Debauche, Madison Johnson, Abigail Dahlgren, Dylan Dahlgren, his sister Gerry Bolz, his nieces Brenda (Bernie) Schwartz, Sandy (Scott) Koski, Linda Bolz-Blume and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Margaret.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday April 30, 2022 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Park Falls. Deacon Chet Ball will officiate.
A visitation will be at the church on Saturday April 30, 2022 from 10:00am until the hour of the service.
Interment will follow at Nola Cemetery with military honors under the auspices of the Park Falls American Legion Post.
