Donald Lenhausen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wasik Funeral Home - Gendernalik Chapel - New Baltimore on Apr. 26, 2025.
Don Lenhausen, 96, died April 21, 2025, in his New Baltimore home. Don was a news reporter at the Detroit Free Press for the majority of his career, retiring in 1992. Don was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rowena. He is survived by his 8 children: Brett (Tammi), Rhett (Debbie), Julie, Cabrelle (Rob) Phelps, Greta (Kevin) Furlong, Jack, Sara (Dean) Jobes, Karla (Steve) Hagemann, 24 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Don loved telling stories and making others laugh. He lit up every room with his grace and humor. Don appreciated the simple pleasures in life. In his honor, please plant something new in your garden, take a long walk with your dog, shoot a good game of pool and enjoy a glass of bourbon or a fine bottle of Mexican beer (absolutely NOT Michelob Ultra!).
A private family memorial will be held at a future date.

I will miss Don and his sweet terrier in the opposite Cul De Sac, We always had a minute for each other and he will be missed.

Worked many shifts with Don when I was night city editor at the Free Press. He was a technician in managing deadline and making all copy going through him meet the highest of standards. He also had an excellent sense of humor and a twinkle in his eye when offering a dry but hilarious take ... RIP Don and condolences to Don´s family.

I was a rookie reporter at the Free Press in the early 1970s, often assigned to cover events at night. That meant reporting and writing from wherever the story was happening, and calling it all in to a more experienced reporter on the city desk. You never knew who might pick up the phone, but I was always relieved when it was Don. I was usually stressed. Don was always relaxed and encouraging. Such a good journalist. Such a good guy. He us all better.
