Donald Lindquist Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mount Laurel Home for Funerals & Cremation Services, Inc. on Mar. 14, 2026.
Donald "Don" Edwin Lindquist, born on August 7, 1946, passed away peacefully on March 11th, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Ayer, Massachusetts, to Fred and Joan Lindquist, Don grew up spending summers on Cape Cod. It was there that he developed a lifelong love for the ocean, one that would shape both his career and his character.

Don graduated from Massachusetts Maritime Academy and went on to spend decades at sea as a marine engineer. His work took him around the world, and he never tired of sharing stories from his time on the ocean. Stories filled with humor, adventure, and the quiet pride of a man who truly loved what he did.

A resident of Medford, New Jersey since 1985, Don built a life rooted in family, friendship, and community. He is survived by his beloved wife, Maureen (Quigley) Lindquist and his four children; Erik and wife Amy, Craig and wife Kimberly, Matt, and Amanda. His greatest joy came from being "Grampy" to his grandchildren, Aidan, Addison, and Rylan, whom he adored beyond measure. Don is also survived by his sister, Sandy and Edward Dickinson; his brother, David and Marilyn Lindquist; as well as many cherished in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Don knew how to enjoy life. He loved golf, cribbage, family vacations, long days at the beach, and a good "barker" off the grill. For 30 years, Don annually brought together friends and professionals from across the shipping industry to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for the Jacobs Raiders Golf Outing. Fostering camaraderie, connection, and lasting bonds.

In August of 2023, Don received a kidney transplant that gave him renewed energy and a fresh outlook on life. Grateful for his second chance, he chose to give back, volunteering his time to speak with dialysis patients to lift their spirits and hope. In his later years, Don found special happiness traveling to visit his daughter in Hawaii, where the ocean once again became a place of peace and reflection for him.

As a sailor at heart, it feels fitting to say that Don has simply set sail on his final voyage, returning at last to the sea he loved so dearly.

May he rest in eternal peace. Details regarding a celebration of life will be shared by the family at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations in Don's memory may be made to the American Kidney Fund. American Kidney Fund Donation

Don, (Link) as we all called him was a great classmate, class of 1964, at Acton Boxborough Regional H.S. Had the great pleasure to play Soccer, Basketball and Track with him. He captained the track team in our senior year. Upon return from one of his first sea trips, he pulled into our yard with a brand new Jaguar XKE and let me take for a spin. Don also drove my future wife to our wedding, have a picture around somewhere. Spent a lot of time at the Lindquist home, swimming in the pool, always looking out for their dog who liked to go after you. The basketball court also got lots of time.
