East Lawn East Sacramento MortuaryDonald A. Lucas, a man whose remarkable life journey was filled with diverse experiences, enduring curiosity, a deep love for his family, and passion for Cleveland sports, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2025 at the age of 91.
Born to parents Michael and Margaret Lucas, Don was raised on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio, where he learned resourcefulness and the value of hard work at a young age. A love for ham radio, instilled into him by his father, paved the way for a successful career as a journeyman electrician. Don began an electrical apprenticeship program after high school, leading him to a career that took him worldwide, including the jungles of Liberia, Saudi Arabia, the Alaskan oil fields, and more. These adventures led to an open-mindedness and curiosity that he kept throughout his life.
Don leaves behind five boys whom he cherished: Guy, Dean, Donny, and Greg from his first marriage to Joan Strauss, and Michael from his marriage to Mary Lonogan. Don’s relationship with Mary began when they were both working in Saudi Arabia, and grew into a loving and supportive marriage spanning 42 years in California, Ohio, Florida, and the Philippines.
He was immensely proud of his five sons, whose varied life paths and achievements brought him great joy. In his retirement, Don moved to Sacramento, California with Mary to be closer to his children. Even at ninety-one, Don maintained a hopeful outlook, ever grateful for his time with loved ones and appreciative of every moment. His life story is a powerful testament to the human spirit's ability to adapt, to cherish family, and to learn from every experience.
Donald is survived by his wife Mary Lucas, and his five sons, Guy, Dean, Donny, Greg, and Michael. A memorial service will be held at 10 am on Sunday, September 28th at East Lawn Memorial Park in Sacramento, CA.
A reception will follow the service at his home in Natomas.
