Donald MacDermid Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by London Funeral Home and Crematory - Lewisburg on Feb. 25, 2025.
Donald Herman MacDermid, age 88, of Fort Payne, Alabama, passed away on February 8, 2025, at his home. He was born on February 21, 1936, in Romulus, Michigan, to the late Norman and Mildred Herman MacDermid.
Don enjoyed a fulfilling career as a Controller at Inner City Products (Heil Quaker) in Lewisburg, Tennessee, retiring in 1994. At one time, he was an active member of the Elks Club and the Lions Club in Lewisburg. After retirement, he continued to pursue his many passions and interests with enthusiasm.
In 2019, Don moved to Fort Payne to be closer to his children and grandchildren. He had a deep love for horses and once cared for more than two dozen on his farm in Lynnville, Tennessee. His appreciation for craftsmanship extended beyond animals-he restored classic cars and tractors and even built and renovated homes. Holding an electrician's license in Tennessee, he often lent his skills to friends working on their own projects.
Music was another of Don's many talents; he was self-taught on the banjo, mandolin, guitar, and even played a tune or two on the piano. His creativity and resourcefulness were evident in everything he did. He lived life fully and left behind a legacy of hard work, passion, and dedication to the things he loved most.
Don is survived by his children, Michael MacDermid and Anita MacDermid (Don Donaghy Jr.); his brother, John MacDermid; sister Kathleen Barker; granddaughter Suzanne Dent; and great-grandchildren Joshua Scoggins, Natalie Scoggins, and Jeremy Ledbetter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nina Kay Liggett MacDermid; infant son Donald MacDermid Jr.; parents; and sister Norma Goff.
Celebration of Life to be held on Sunday, March 16, 2025, 2:00 PM, in the Chapel at London Funeral Home, 324 West Church Street, Lewisburg, TN 37091. Graveside Service to follow at Lone Oak Cemetery, 200 Lone Oak Dr., Lewisburg, TN 37091.
Don will be deeply missed by those who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to all who loved him.
