Donald J. “Donnie” MacQuarrie of Milton, died on Dec. 24, 2024 at home surrounded by the family he cherished. He was 90. The beloved husband of 64 years to Marion Marcella (Van Volsen) MacQuarrie. Cherished father of Allen MacQuarrie and his wife Margaret-Ann of Stoughton, Susan Canestaro and her husband Carmen of Wakefield, Douglas MacQuarrie and his wife Agnes of Avon, Sandra Gedgaudas and her husband Paul of Brockton, Cindy Lawrence and her husband Alan of Encinitas, CA, Donald MacQuarrie and his wife Liza of Odessa, FL, Sarah Susi and her husband Ray of Milton, and Jamie MacQuarrie and his wife Stacy of Braintree. Devoted grandfather of Meagan, AJ, Melissa, Marc, Micah, Daniel, Lyndsey, Cameron, Liam, Sylvia, Helena, Lyla, Isabella, Marco,James, Stella, Joseph, Santina and the late Christopher. Donnie is also survived by 11 great grandchildren Brother of Mary Jamieson of Dorchester, Isabel Carey and her husband Joseph of Hyannis, Francis MacQuarrie and his wife Bernadette of Milton and the late Allen MacQuarrie and Christine Kelly. Brother in law of Marlene Stout of Hingham, Joyce Fallon of NJ and the late Jackelene Walton. Donnie is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Born in Boston and raised in Dorchester, Donald attended St. Francis Xavier University. He was a nursing home owner and administrator, he had a real passion for caring for others. A lover of history and current events, in his semi-retirement he shared his passion driving tour buses regaling riders of Boston’s special place in history. A devout Catholic dedicated to church and family, he was a Eucharistic minister and loved to sing in the choir. We all benefited from his kindness, generosity and sense of humor.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Thursday Jan. 2, 2025 from 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Friday 1/3/2025 prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Elizabeth's Church, at 10 AM. Burial in Milton Cemetery, Milton. Donations in memory of Donald may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168. Donald served in the United States Army.
