Obituary published on Legacy.com by J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. of Sharon on Sep. 9, 2025.
Donald Rhys McCamant, DMD, born January 30, 1947, in
Sharon, PA, to Dr. and Mrs. H. Donald McCamant, passed away on September 6, 2025, in the arms of his family.
Don was the beloved husband of 56 years to his high school sweetheart Antoinette (Toni) Perfett, adoring father to Nicole (Greg) Walzer and Colleen (Ray) Fitzpatrick, loving, proud "Da" to his grandchildren Rhys, Ella, Emmett, Liam, Colin, and Graeme, and dear brother to Margi (John) O'Brien and Menna (Bruce) Kuczinski.
A 1965 graduate of Sharon High School, Don continued his studies at the University of Pittsburgh, graduating from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in 1972.
Dr. McCamant practiced dentistry for 46 years in Sharpsville, PA, happily working his first 16 years alongside his father and uncle. He was a member of the Mercer County, Pennsylvania, and National Dental Associations. He was honored as the Boss of the Year by the Greenville Women's Club. After he retired, Dr. McCamant delighted in meeting up with his past patients all around the valley.
Forever a University of Pittsburgh supporter, Don enjoyed a good Pitt tailgate, football game, or basketball game. He was a member of the Pittsburgh University Club and the Golden Panthers. He found mostly joy in supporting his Steelers, Pirates, and Cavs. Don enjoyed playing basketball from a young age at Sharon and continued as long as he could keep up with the young guys as a longtime member of the F. H. Buhl Club.
From the time he was young, Don was an avid and accomplished golfer, competing in and winning many junior championships. Don was one of the oldest remaining members of the Sharon (Avalon) Country Club. At the country club, Don was a two-time Club Champion and served on the board of directors, as Vice President from 1990-95, and President from 1995-96.
In addition to supporting local athletics and schools, Don was a member of the Sharon Fishing Club. He demonstrated his love for the community by serving as a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and SEED.
Don's greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends on Hilton Head Island, where he enjoyed biking, music, and reading, or his many ski trips, highlighted by completing 75 ski runs on his 75th birthday. He could always be found cheering on his children and grandchildren from the crowd in their many performances and athletics. He cherished the role of "second dad" throughout his life. He generously treated everyone he met like family. Don McCamant's day was made if he could make you laugh or feel loved, and he will be missed beyond measure by those who loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Buhl Park Golf Course (Dum Dum), 1290 Forker Blvd.,
Sharon, PA 16146.
