Donald McDowell Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home on Jan. 7, 2025.
Donald J. McDowell, a devoted husband to Faylene, peacefully passed away in his sleep on January 6, 2025. Together, they spent most of 70 years of their lives together in Riverside, Illinois. Faylene had passed away in 2022. Now, they are reunited in the magnificent glory of heaven, with God, our Father.
Don found strength in his deep faith in our Lord. He took tremendous pride in his family, who he loved deeply. He was a devoted father to six; Donald McDowell II (Rosalyn Glaubke), Barbara Wolanin (Michael), Peggy Johnson (Edward), John McDowell (Nadine), Ellen Soto (Shane) and Dan McDowell (Joy).
There was immense joy in his heart and a smile on his face whenever he was around his 14 grandchildren. Michael Wolanin (Brittany Gray), MegAnne Offredi (Justin), Katie Pippenger (Ben), Emma Davidson (Anthony), Shelby Bello (Tommy), Nicholas Hanna (Lisa), Donald McDowell III (Danielle), Jenna Ryan (Liam), Joseph Hanna (Karissa), David Johnson (Molly), Adam Wolanin (Sophie), Bridget McCauley (Ryan), Melissa McDowell, and Brinn McDowell were all part of his family. He was also blessed with 14 great grandchildren, Carter, Molly, Alexandra, Mason, Benny, Caleb, Charlotte, Aubrey, Evelyn, Lewis, Jordy, Graham, Nina, and Josephine, who brought him so much happiness in his later years. He cherished many more members of his extended family as if they were his blood relatives.
His remarkable life, spanning over 96 years, was dedicated to serving his church and making significant contributions as an industrial chemist, holding numerous patents. He was deeply committed to the Riverside Township Lions Club, serving as a past president and a permanent director. He cherished the friendships he cultivated at work and in the community, and the profound impact they had on his life.
Don, an avid music lover, was particularly captivated by Faylene's piano playing. Their "musical collaboration" created an enchanting melody that embodied love, kindness, and faith, serving as an enduring inspiration for all of us.
For those who would like to leave a lasting tribute to Don's life, memorial donations may be directed to the Riverside Township Lion's Club, 27 Riverside Rd., Riverside, Il 60546
