Donald "Don" E. Modrall
August 2, 1933 - October 14, 2025
Donald E. Modrall passed away peacefully at The Ray Hickey Hospice House in Vancouver WA, on October 14 at the age of 92. Don was born in Pomona, Missouri, the 2nd of 6 children, and moved to Vancouver in 1944.
Don graduated from Fort Vancouver High School and attended 4 years at Clark College, Vancouver WA and spent most of his life in the Vancouver area. After Graduating from Clark College, he enlisted in the Coast Guard for 4 years, then began his career as an Auto Machinist before finding his niche in building homes, building numerous homes in the Vancouver area and his pride, a log home in Mapleton, Oregon. The last few years his time was spent between Mapleton, Oregon and Desert Hot Springs, CA.
Don was known for his kindness and help for others. He never had a bad word to say about anyone. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to any friend or family member with a smile on his face and usually a new idea or two. He liked to introduce his new ideas with the phrase, "I had a dream "! He leaves a legacy of kindness and generosity. Don was an avid gardener and loved having a vegetable garden big enough to share with the neighbors. Don was very proud of his hibiscus, he could grow anything, and always had a beautiful yard.
Don is survived by his wife Barbara J. Modrall & his devoted dog Charlie Brown. He is also survived by his brother Lynn (Skinner) Modrall (Flory), and sister Linda Ellis (Dan), his children Daniel Modrall (Pauline), Julie Claflin & Lori Marlow, his stepchildren Rick Kuehnert, Jean Nisperos, Kim Branstetter, and James Mason, 5 grandkids, 4 step-grandkids, 4 great-grandkids and 6 step-great-grandkids, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Don will be greeted in heaven by his parents, Ralph and Sylvia, his brother Gail Modrall (Cowboy), sisters Dorothy Hammerstaedt & Helen Loughry and his step-daughter Michelle Mason (Joey).
Service will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens on November 8th @ 3:00.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Ray Hickey Hospice House or the Caring Closet.
