Recently celebrated my 50 year Cornell Graduation. I was fortunate to have had Don as a roommate and friend while we in Grad School 1974-5. Sadly I had not reached out to thank Don for his smile and meal prep during that time. Don was a real hoot and could count on him for a favor or not of advice. Sadly I read of his passing, Don was a genuine nice guy. May his memory serve as a blessing. Spence Roman

Dear Family,
My wife Anna and I were fortunate to have met Don a few years back when he was visiting a friend of his at Mooreberg Cottage on the St. John campus. My mother was a resident there as well and our paths crossed several times. We were amazed at Don's physical and intellectual capacities and especially his caring nature. We brought our Mom to Alaska 3 years ago to live with us (Mom passed in April ). Although our physical interactions ended with Don, we stayed in touch via letter and occasional phone contact. We were amazed at his handwritten notes and his ability to recall so many details about our family and conversations.
We talked with Don a few days before his passing. Obviously he wasn't doing well but he was still able to inquire about us and our family. He told us that he was not sad about passing and that he had a life filled with many blessings including his wonderful family and friends. He even said that he was kind of excited about what was to come. We both lamented that our friendship was so recent and that we wished our paths had crossed earlier. However, we are grateful that we were able to express our love and admiration for him in this final conversation.
My Dad and Don were born in the same year and are both great examples of the "Greatest Generation." For us, Don picked up the slack after losing Dad in '08. What a guy!
Anna and I did not meet any of Don's family when we visited Mom in Billings. We have no phone or addresses and the folks at St. John's would not give us any contact information. We would surely enjoy visiting with any family members about Don and would love to support the family in any way.
Love and Blessings!

May the God of all comfort strengthen the family of Donald Nafus during this time of deep sorrow. Those who pass on God keeps in his memory because they are precious in his eyes. My sincerest condolences. Psalm 116:15
