MASSENA – Donald P. Perry, 76, peacefully passed away Sunday evening, January 4, 2025 at his home with his family at his side.
Donnie was born March 11, 1949 in Potsdam, the son of the late Emile P. and Ann Mary (McDermott) Perry. He was raised in Norwood and attended Norwood-Norfolk Central School, where graduated in 1969. On May 11, 1970, he entered the United States Army, serving his country during the Vietnam Conflict. He was honorably discharged on February 17, 1972. He married Kristine Bond and was blessed with two children before their marriage ended. On July 18, 1997, he married Cherrie Guyette. She predeceased him on March 2, 2025.
Donnie was an auto mechanic for most of his working career, being self-employed and working for Sears, Jim Dalton Pontiac, Fay Motors, and most recently JAC Tower until his retirement. Additionally, he was a police officer for the Village of Norwood for a short time. Donnie enjoyed hunting, fishing, coaching Little League Sports, and playing oldtimers softball.
Donnie is survived by his children, Angela (Matthew) Leary of Constable and Paul (Hidee) Perry of Waddington; his stepchildren, Thomas (Jessica) Burnor, Carrie Burnor, and Crystal Burnor (Tyler); 16 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Florence Duprey and his brother, Lawrence "Larry" Perry.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, however there will be no services. Burial with military honors will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Norwood will be held privately.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Disabled American Veterans or a local animal shelter of your choice.
