It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Donald "Donnie" Pye, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. Donnie passed away on July 25, 2025, at the age of 75, in his hometown of Carolina Beach, NC.

Born on May 26, 1950, Donnie's life was a tapestry of passion, humor, and service. A man deeply connected to the ocean, he spent his youth as a lifeguard, often found surfing the waves or casting a line while fishing. His love for the sea remained with him throughout his life, influencing both his work and his leisure.

Donnie's technical skills were revered as he worked as an instrumentation technician for nuclear power plants. His career took him across the globe, including destinations such as Egypt, Hawaii, Canada, and various states in the U.S., where he played a crucial role in nuclear shutdowns and calibrations, ensuring the safety and efficiency of plant operations.

A man of varied interests, Donnie delighted in the simple joys of life. He was a golfer, a softball player, and a devoted coach to his daughters' sports teams. He was a photographer, his lens captured countless memories for the community he cherished. Known for his quick wit and endless repertoire of Dad jokes, Donnie could easily bring a smile to anyone's face. His pranks and great sense of humor were legendary among family and friends.

Donnie's fascination with history, particularly the Civil War, led him to frequent Fort Fisher, where he found reflection and inspiration. He was also famous for his contribution to the coloring of the Carolina Beach water tower, a testament to his commitment to community spirit. His mottos, "Sometimes you have to let life come to you" and "That'll be fine," will be remembered by all who knew him.

A proud supporter of veterans, Donnie was actively involved with the American Legion Post 129, where he generously gave his time and resources. In honor of his memory, the family requests donations to this organization, reflecting his dedication to those who have served, please see link below.

Preceded in death by his beloved parents, Marvin and Viola Pye, Donnie is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Radford Pye; his cherished daughters, Regina Pye and Elizabeth Lilly, along with her husband Tom; adoring grandchildren, Allison Norville and her husband Morgan, as well as Olivia and Owen Hatcher; and his loving siblings Marvin Pye, Richard Pye, Penny Little, and Cindy Pye. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss him dearly.

A celebration of Donnie's life will be held at Jack Mackerel's Island Grill, 113 K Avenue, Kure Beach, NC 28449, on Sunday, August 3, 2025 from 11am-1pm, where stories and laughter will fill the air, just as he would have wanted.

In remembering Donnie, may we all find solace in his legacy of love, laughter, and community spirit. He will be forever missed and fondly remembered.

His family has entrusted Donnie's care to Wilmington Funeral and Cremation, 1535 S. 41st Street, Wilmington, NC 28403.
