Donald, affectionately known as "Danny," was born in Lily Field, St. Ann, Jamaica, on April 24, 1965. He was the seventh of ten children born to his loving parents, Linda and George Rattray.
In 1978, Danny migrated to the United States and settled in East Orange, New Jersey, where he attended school. He was a bright student who excelled academically and was known for his kind and gentle spirit. A beloved son, brother, nephew, uncle, and cousin, Danny was cherished by all who knew him.
Danny had a deep love for chess and played it with remarkable skill. He had a brilliant mind that saw the world in unique and insightful ways. Always ready with a clever remark, he had a quick wit that could catch you off guard and leave you laughing. His humor was sharp, his observations keen, and even in his quietest moments, he carried a wisdom that reflected the depth of his soul.
He was also a talented writer, known for his ability to craft words with depth and meaning. His writing was sought after, as he had a unique way of capturing emotions, experiences, and perspectives that resonated deeply with others. Whether through poetry, stories, or reflections, his words left an impact on those who had the privilege of reading them.
Though life's circumstances led him to spend much of his time in care, those who truly knew him understood the depth of his wit, intelligence, and heart. He was our brother, our friend, and a reminder that laughter and wisdom can thrive in the most unexpected places.
On March 8, 2025, Danny passed away peacefully at the age of 60. He is now free from all that confined him in life, reunited with those who have gone before him, and at peace. Danny is survived by his father, George Rattray; his sisters, Madge, Alcie, Beems, Pat, and Anne; his brothers, Bobby and Anthony; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles, and aunts. Though he is no longer with us, his love, laughter, and wisdom will remain in our hearts forever.
Visitation hours will be held on Saturday March 29, 2025, from 12 PM to 1 PM with the Funeral Service set to begin at 1 PM at Martinez-Morse Funeral Home 33 Railroad Ave., Middletown, N.Y. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery Middletown, NY.
Rest easy, Danny. You were loved more than you ever knew.
He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
