Donald Robinson Obituary

Donald Thomas Robinson, age 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 22, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 25, 1942, in Jackson, Tenn., he led a life marked by social contributions and personal achievements.

Don had a distinguished career in banking, serving in various pivotal roles. He was the manager of the Brooks Road branch of Commercial and Industrial Bank, where his leadership was instrumental in fostering community trust. His career also included significant positions such as the senior vice president of First National Bank of Selmer, president of the Bank of Zeigler, and chairman of the board and chief executive officer of the Bank of Benton. He served as Senior Vice President and Loan Administrator of First Citizens National Bank of Dyersburg and Senior Vice President and Senior Loan Officer of First Exchange Bank (Regions Bank) of Dyersburg. After semi-retirement he worked for Dennis Joslin Company.

Throughout his career, Don demonstrated not only financial acumen but also bravery and commitment to public safety. A memorable incident occurred while he was branch manager at Whitehaven C&I Bank, when he courageously helped apprehend a robbery suspect alongside a customer. Together, they followed the robber in a car, successfully flagging down the police, leading to the swift arrest. This act of heroism exemplified his dedication not just to his job, but to the well-being of his community.

Don's educational journey began at Southside High School, Class of 1960, and he attended Lambuth College. He was a graduate of the School of Banking of the South, Louisiana State University, and a graduate of the National Commercial Lending Graduate School of the University of Oklahoma. He was recognized early in his career as the youngest cashier in Tennessee, earning the title of "Local Outstanding Young Man" from the Jaycee organization.

Beyond his professional life, Don was a kind-hearted individual who devoted much of his time to helping others. He served in the National Guard, showcasing his commitment to service and community. His passion for the outdoors was evident in his love of hunting and fishing throughout his life. In later years, he actively participated in the National Wild Turkey Federation, where he further contributed to conservation efforts.

He was a firearms instructor. Don instructed a hunters safety education course, and led hunts for Wounded Warriors at the Milan Arsenal. This illustrated his deep commitment to both education and support for veterans. His personality was warm and generous, allowing him to connect with people from all walks of life. He was a devoted member of Hopewell Baptist Church, where he contributed to the faith community that was important to him.

In his younger days, Don excelled as a featherweight champion boxer, a testament to his competitive spirit and determination. These diverse interests, from boxing to banking, shaped a remarkable life that left lasting impressions on all who knew him.

Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife, Linda Robinson; children, Bryan Phillip Robinson (Brenda) and Malea Stevens (Kerry); brother, James Terry Robinson; sister, Ellen Troy Zerilla (Sam); grandchildren, Bryanna Gable (Ricky) and Carly Robinson; and great-grandchildren, Bauer Gable, Palmer Gable. He was preceded in death by his son, Donald Thomas Robinson, II; and parents, T.W. Robinson and Virginia Elston Robinson and his sister-in-law, Margie Robinson.
