GRAND ISLAND - Donald Dale Rohweder, 92, of Grand Island, passed away to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 17, 2024.

Service and celebration of Donald's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 22, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at Cairo. There is a visitation from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church or Heartland High School. All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.

Donald was born July 5, 1932 on the family farm northwest of Grand Island, the son of George and Ella (Meyer) Rohweder. He graduated from Cairo High School with the class of 1950. While in high school, he played six-man football (All State Honors), basketball and many years of baseball and fast-pitch softball in Cairo and Grand Island.

On May 4, 1952, Don married Elvera Poehler at Christ Lutheran Church in Cairo. They would spend 72 years of marriage together. This union was blessed with sons, Kenneth and Randall.

Don and Elvera farmed until 1963. After which, Don was employed in sugar refineries in Grand Island, Montezuma NY, Greeley CO and Billings MT. He was happy to have helped with the construction of additions at Christ Lutheran Church and Heartland Lutheran High School.

Donald was a past member of Christ Lutheran Church in Cairo, and currently a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Platt Deutsche for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Elvera; sons, Kenneth Rohweder of Asheville, NC and Randall (Marsha) Rohweder of Vail, AZ; two grandchildren, Sarah (Jonathan) Herning and Ashley Rohweder (Luis Briseno); and three great-grandchildren, Damon, Ariana and Rosalie Dominguez.

He is also survived by brothers, Gary (Marcia) Rohweder of Juneau, AK and David (Arlene) Rohweder of Golden, CO; sisters-in-law, Arlene Rohweder, Betty Rohweder and Patricia Rohweder; brother-in-law, Ray Poehler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, George Rohweder and Ella (Vernon) Nelson; his parents-in-law, Fred and Emma Poehler; grandson, Jacob Rohweder; brothers, George (Betty) Rohweder, Robert, Dale and Alan; and sister-in-law, Linda Poehler.
